Nevada hunting is a long walk in thin air. Mule deer in the high basins, pronghorn on the flats and the odd lucky tag from the draw all reward a rifle that is light on the shoulder and steady on a bipod. Fierce Firearms built its Mini Rogue rifles for smaller shooters who still want to make that kind of shot.

The line targets youth, women and smaller-framed hunters with a shorter stock and an adjustable comb or push-button cheek piece. Carbon fiber stocks keep weight down for climbs over rock and sage, and several models add a Fierce C3 carbon barrel. An integral bipod rail and QD flush cups help on open ground where shots stretch out. Choose 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5 PRC for open country, or 22 and 25 Creedmoor for a gentle start.

6.5 PRC takes the 6.5 mm bullet faster than the Creedmoor for more reach on elk and mule deer, at the cost of a little more recoil. 6.5 PRC recoils more than the Creedmoors; for a first season most young hunters do better with 6.5 Creedmoor.

Under the carbon stock sits Fierce's stainless steel dual-lug action with a 70-degree bolt throw and a spiral-fluted bolt. The trigger is a Bix'n Andy Dakota, adjustable, and the barrel is match grade and hand lapped.

This rifle has a 20 in threaded barrel, 4+1 capacity, and weighs about 5.8 lb. Finish: Sonora Ambush Camo.

Prone shots across a desert basin are where fit shows. When the length of pull is right, a young shooter can settle behind the rifle without crowding the scope or reaching for the trigger. Set the cheek piece so the eye finds a full sight picture the moment the head drops. Build skill on 22 or 6mm Creedmoor before moving to 308 or a 6.5 PRC.
